Measurement in Financial Accounting

Project Leader: Geoffrey Whittington

This project is concerned with how the elements of financial statements are measured. The importance of this topic has become apparent in the debate on fair value measurement and its possible role in magnifying the financial crisis. However, it is a long-standing and pervasive problem in financial reporting and is the subject of continuing debate as the International Accounting Standards Board attempts to incorporate measurement criteria in its conceptual framework.

The ultimate objective of the project is to write a book, to be published by Cambridge University Press, but a number of papers and commentaries on current issues have been published as part of the process.
